World Journalists Federation (WJF) Condemns Israeli Forces for Deliberate Killing of Journalists in Gaza
The World Journalists Federation (WJF) strongly condemned the killing of journalists by Israeli forces, calling it a “grave violation of international law and a deliberate attack on press freedom.” The WJF urged the United Nations and the international community to launch an immediate investigation and hold those responsible accountable.
Israeli forces carried out yet another deadly strike in Gaza, killing Al Jazeera’s renowned journalist Anas Al-Sharif along with three of his colleagues. According to Gaza’s Al-Shifa Hospital, the 28-year-old journalist and his team were targeted near the hospital’s main gate while inside a tent designated for journalists.
Local authorities have stated that the attack appeared to be a targeted strike against the media team. Including Al Jazeera reporter Muhammad Quraqia, cameraman Ibrahim Zahir, and media worker Muhammad Nofal.
“This deliberate targeting of journalists is not only an assault on the individuals who courageously risk their lives to report the truth but also a direct attack on the public’s right to information,” said the WJF leadership in its statement. “Such actions are abhorrent, unacceptable, and demand an urgent, transparent investigation under international law.”
The WJF emphasized that the protection of journalists in conflict zones is a fundamental obligation under the Geneva Conventions and international humanitarian law. Any failure to safeguard media workers constitutes a war crime and undermines global democratic values.
The Federation reaffirmed its solidarity with journalists working in conflict areas and vowed to continue advocating for their safety, justice for the victims, and accountability for perpetrators of such heinous acts.
